Aim

The aim of this course is to help you discover the major role of Public Relations, or PR, as the practice of managing the flow of information between an individual or organization and the public. You will learn how, with using the right PR techniques, PR can provide an organization or individual exposure to their audiences using topics of public interest and news items that do not require direct payment. You will also be able to use PR as a key management function of a business or an essential strategy to manage your individual reputation. It will help you accomplish important goals such as establishing trust among key publics, increasing news media and social media presence, and maintaining a consistent voice across communication.

Objectives

This course allows Trainees to:
Develop both a theoretical and practical approach to public relations.
Understand the meaning and development of public relations; ethics in PR; PR as a management function; the PR planning process; the work environment.
PR tools and techniques with particular focus on event management and media relations.
Trainees will thus receive a strong foundation in public relations as both an academic discipline and as a professional practice.

On successful completion of this course, Trainees should demonstrate an understanding of:
The meaning of public relations and the ways in which it has developed
The theory of public relations and the planning process in particular
The various elements of a PR campaign, and be able to use award winning examples
What is involved in media relations and event management
How PR functions within organizations and consultancies.

Learning Methods:

A mixture of lectures, group discussions (tutorials), and mini-case studies are used to achieve the objectives of this course. Some topics are taught in the classroom environment; trainees have to learn these topics by themselves in the process of writing problem- based assignments. Directed study is also used to develop the self-learning ability of trainees.

Joumana Fakih is a Management Expert, studied Business and Leadership in Harvard University, USA; and HR Management in American University of Beirut. She has a PhD in Human Resources and Organization Development and is a Certified Master Coach from ATD.
